Web-Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure named as attraction for Avengers Campus

Web-Slingers: A Spider Man Adventure at Avengers Campus in Walt Disney Studios Park

Web-Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure is the official name of the interactive dark ride coming to Walt Disney Studios Park and Disney California Adventure as part of the Avengers Campus expansion.

New details have also emerged regarding the attraction’s story including the addition of several new Marvel superheroes set to appear alongside a Spider-Man portrayed by the MCU’s Tom Holland.

Back during the D23 Expo 2019, first details were revealed about the attraction which will see guests join the Friendly Neighbourhood Hero as they are recruited to try out a brand new technology, the WEB Slinger Vehicle. While at the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (WEB) facility however things will take a turn for the worst when the prototype Spider-Bots go haywire, forcing you to join forces with the youngest Avenger to save the day.

Today additional details have been announced on the highly anticipated attraction, including that Marvel Cinematic Universe star Tom Holland will be returning to portray the masked hero in Web-Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. Holland is of course a household name thanks to his role as Peter Parker in a number of MCU films including two Spidey flicks, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame.

Donning 3D glasses, guests will join Spider-Man on an action-packed adventure where they will be able to take down those pesky Spider-Bots, just as how guests can hit targets on their quest to save the galaxy in Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast. Unlike the Discoveryland favourite however, there will be no need for a blaster or any physical peripheral at all.

“We always start with wish fulfillment when we’re creating an attraction. What is that thing that you’ve always wanted to do? What is that power that you’ve always wanted to have?” said Brent Strong, executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering.

“Believe it or not, with nothing in your hands, you get to reach out and you will sling webs on this ride. Sixty times a second we are able to determine where a guest’s head is, their shoulders, their elbows, and even their wrists. We’re able to track the motion of your body so that when you reach out and sling a web, since we know where your eyes are and we know where your hands are, we can render a web—a virtual web coming right out of the palm of your hand—right out of your virtual web shooters and into a virtual world.”

Much like Buzz and other interactive based attractions however, Web-Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure will track how well each guest did on their mission and how many Spider-Bots they managed to web up.

Web-Slingers is just one of two attractions planned for Avengers Campus at Walt Disney Studios Park, which is replacing Backlot after the closure of the land last year. Though unnamed, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster avec Aerosmith will see an entire retheme when it welcomes its new owner Tony Stark better known as the billionaire superhero Iron Man.

The land is also set to include a dedicated meet & greet location for Marvel superheroes and a restaurant themed to Ant-Man and PYM Technologies. This is likely to be similar if not exact to Pym Test Kitchen, the quantum tunnel based restaurant planned for Disney California Adventure’s version of the land.

Over in Disneyland Resort, it is confirmed that their Avengers Campus will officially open on 18th July 2020. Though missing the Iron Man coaster, DCA will gain and additional show featuring the Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange. An E-Ticket taking guests to the far reaches of Wakanda is also planned later in the future. As work continues in the Disneyland Paris variant of the land an official launch is still kept vague, outside of the 2021 date provided last year.

One thing both versions of Avengers Campus will have is a gift shop, allowing guests to engage in some retail therapy after their Web-Slinging adventure. WEB Suppliers will contain a number of unique items of merchandise including your very own Spider-Bot, Marvel Funko Pop! Vinyls and a very cool WEB backpack.

Web-Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure opens in Walt Disney Studios Park along with the whole of Avengers Campus in 2021.
