Frontierland Theater officially opens

Frontierland Theater has officially opened in Disneyland Park after a full renovation, replacing The Chaparral Theater.

Tying in with the launch of The Lion King & Jungle Festival, the first new venue will debut with the flagship show of the season, The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands.

The Chaparral Theater closed its doors for the final time last year for an extensive renovation that saw the entire building demolished and a new one constructed in its place. In April, it was confirmed the new structure would be renamed to Frontierland Theater.

Keeping with the greater Thunder Mesa story and setting, the new theater is themed to a repurposed barn much like its Chaparral predecessor. Unlike the original creation however the venue is entirely covered, sheltering guests from the rain and providing shade during the intense heat.

The massive pillars that once populated the old seating area have also been removed for the Frontierland Theater. This means guests can now enjoy productions without any fear of view restrictions.

The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands is the first stage show to run in Frontierland Theater. The new venue opens to the public on Sunday 30th June 2019, though selected press were given a preview of the new show, and Theater, the day prior.

Rhythms of the Pride Lands is set to be main event of the brand new a season The Lion King & Jungle Festival. The show uses state of the art technology including ‘360 degree sound’ to create an immersive, musical recreation of the classic Disney story.

In honour of venue’s opening, Cast Members working on Frontierland Theater were given an unique ‘Opening Crew’ name tag to commemorate the milestone.

The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands can be found in Frontierland Theater as part of The Lion King & Jungle Festival until 22nd September.
